Arts Innovation Center Welcomes Artist in Residence Cameron Sawzin

September 10, 2019

The Arts Innovation Center and Smash Music are pleased to announce the addition of our first Artist in Residence Cameron Sawzin.

Cameron is offering Private instruction at the AIC as well as an innovative ensemble called

Fusion Cello Band and an equally innovative workshop known as

Kickboxing Masterclass for Cellists.

She has taught Andover students many years and enjoyed serving for the second time this past semester as guest cello professor at the University of New Hampshire, where her work was very well received by both faculty and students.

She is Executive Director of the Boston Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra, and is designing their new multimedia concert series at Fort Point Channel in Boston with Grammy winning guitarist and composer Claudio Ragazzi. Her solo cello work has been often heard on the PBS show “Nova, among others, including the special “Race the power of an Illusion”, even more relevant now. She played on  a CD entitled “A bunch of Guitars and a Cello” with virtuoso Jazz guitarist Jeff Cashen. The CD has received 6 uniformly excellent reviews, both in the US and Europe.

She has done extensive study of Pilates and Alexander modalities and uses them with consistent success to help her students create a natural, fluid cello technique

Cameron Sawzin earned bachelors and master’s degrees from Oberlin College and the New England Conservatory, studying with Richard Kapuscinsky and Lawrence Lesser. She attended Juilliard while in High School, playing on recording sessions in New York Ms. Sawzin’s engagements range from Masterworks Chorale, New Hampshire Music Festival and Opera North to Broadway shows “The Producers and Sweet Charity” and the Boston Lyric Opera production of “”Marriage of Figaro”.  She also plays with Symphony New Hampshire. A soloist in the New Directions Cello Festival at the University of Conn., she has been a member of the steering committee, along with Artistic Advisors, YoYo Ma, Ron Carter, Julian Lloyd Weber and David Darling.

"Cameron's work as a performer and as an educator embodies the high standards and wide-ranging creativity inherent in all of the faculty and Artist in Residence here at the Arts Innovation Center" founder Scott Graves said for a recent press release.  " We believe her innovative ensembles and her work one on one with students will greatly enhance the work we're doing to create a premiere education experience at the Arts Innovation Center".
